Roy Barco, MD, PhD

ABOUT DR. BARCO:
Dr. Roy Barco was raised in South Florida, the oldest of four children and first in his family to attend college. He enrolled at University of Miami for his undergraduate studies under the Howard Hughes Scholarship Program, graduating Summa Cum Laude with Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Exercise Physiology. He was subsequently accepted into Vanderbilt University Medical School under full scholarship through the Medical Scientist Training Program, where he obtained his Medical Doctorate (MD). At Vanderbilt, he also received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Cancer Biology, publishing multiple manuscripts in the field of synovial sarcoma research. His medical schooling was followed by internal medicine residency training at University of Alabama-Birmingham Medical Center. He subsequently accepted a position with St Vincent’s Family Care in Oneonta, Alabama, where he practiced primary care medicine while providing inpatient coverage for St Vincent’s Blount Hospital. In recognition of his commitment to primary care medicine, he was selected as a representative on the St Vincent’s Primary Care Council.

He enjoys cooking, fishing, college football, reading nonfiction, travelling, and is an avid dog-lover. A disciple of Jesus Christ, he believes in giving glory to God through serving his community as the embodiment of the ideal physician.
